Carly Newell
A trained water-sports coach & elite athlete!

 Over 10 years of experience as a competitive, sponsored Provincial and National Wakeboard athlete, and and a World Wakesurf Masters Champion!

A trained NCCP watersports instructor              (National Coaching Certification Program)

Carly has worked with Okanagan wake schools, such as: Off the Grid, Wake Pilot, Peach City Surf, Whiplash and Rad Galz.

Carly won many BC wakeboard events from 1998-2011

She started competing in the CWSA Wakesurf events in 2017 and was invited to her first Worlds event that year placing 3rd in the Masters Skim division

Her Best Event?  Winning the 2019 CWSA World Wakesurf Championships in the Masters Skim division

In 2020 she maintained a #1 CWSA World Ranking in the Masters Skim division, and won North American Wakesurf online event

In the past summers Carly has riden a KANUK board, the 53.5 Vedder with custom @agendasurf XL Pro traction pads AND thanks to a new sponsor Dockside Marine Centre, Carly is having fun transferring her surf skills to a 2023 Hyperlite Storm size 50 board. 

Carly learned to waterski at 5 years old and was slalom skiing at 9.

She actually didn't learn to wakeboard until after a basketball career at Simon Fraser University!

Carly has 7 years of lifeguarding and swim instructor experience

Off the water, Carly has over 19 years of classroom teaching experience 

She is a Physical & Health Education Teacher, and she holds a Masters of Education degree with her specialization in Curriculum and Instruction.

Her passion for teaching has naturally flowed into her personal passion for wake sports. She has taught 5 year olds to 65 year olds how to Wakesurf.

She is also focused on progressing her own skills, and has had training with elite Wakesurf schools, such as @Trickywakesurfschool @offthegridsurf school and @nicolebhudson
